The Berghoff Restaurant in Chicago now has the record for the world’s largest Bratwurst after an Oktoberfest event last week in Chicago. The world-record brat was 47-feet long, 3 inches thick, and weighed more than 40 pounds. The Chef Mathew Reichel had to combine 8 grills to be able to grill the brat which took more than 30-minutes to finish.
The bun for the record-setting bratwurst was supplied by Highland Bakery. It was 50-feet long and took over 30 pounds of dough to complete. They also had to bring the bun in on a 53-foot trailer to avoid breaking it. According to those from the company it was by far the largest thing they’ve ever baked.
After all records were officially set the brat was then cut up into four-inch sections and sold to raise around $1,000 for Mercy Home for Boys and Girls which is a charity that helps with at-risk children in the Chicago area. Check out the video below of the record-breaking bratwurst.
